Top 5 Toddler Approved Snacks

Feeding toddlers is no easy task so I thought I would share my toddlers top 5 favorite snacks!

When creating snacks to feed my little guy I like to pair a protein rich food (i.e cheese, Greek yogurt, peanut butter, nuts/seeds, cottage cheese, eggs, hummus etc.) with a fruit, vegetable or starch/grain.

  • The protein keeps him full after his snack so he won’t be asking for more 5 minutes later, but protein is also important for growth and development.
  • The fruit/vegetables/grains give him energy as well as fibre and vitamins/minerals that are essential for development.

Snack #1:

Greek Yogurt & fruit

Snack #2:

Cheese string & unsweetened apple sauce

Snack #3:

Peanut butter on toast

Snack #4:

Cheese & mini muffin

*These are rhubarb cinnamon muffins I made with fresh rhubarb from the garden.

Snack #5:

Hummus & veggies or crackers

Once in a while (1-2 times per week) we snack on less balanced choices such as homemade cookies, popsicles or other treats. I try to keep snacks healthy most of the time as my toddler seems to eat quite snacks well compared to lunch and supper (where it can be hit or miss) so it is a great opportunity to get some good nutrients into him 🙂
